European Tour loses great friend in Doug Lowe

Dougie relaxing during U.S. Masters week

It is sad to report my dear friend and golf colleague, Doug Lowe passed away on Sunday.

We were intending to visit Dougie this week at his Helensburgh home after learning he had contracted a brain tumour.

But news of his sudden death has come as a real shock to all us that knew Dougie, and unfortunately now we will be heading across to Helensburgh for his funeral.

Dougie will be remembered for his very quiet ways but also for making us laugh with some of his jokes as he sipped on his glass of dark rum and diet coke.

He loved his golf and especially being present to report for the Scottish Herald on the efforts of the Scots competing on the European Tour.

In fact, all the Scottish players signed ‘get well’ messages for Dougie when we were out recently in the Middle East.

Bernie (McGuire) and I had the pleasure of staying with Dougie during last year’s Barclays Scottish Open.

I last saw him at the Dunhill Links Championship and again, he was always fun to be around.

Dougie – Myself and everyone working on the European Tour will miss you, terribly.
