Paul Waring will surely now be heading to the PGA Tour full-time after his stunning Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship triumph.
Waring, 39 kept his nerve to bravely brush aside the efforts of some of the game’s best, and including three past Abu Dhabi champions, in birding the closing two holes in a round of 66 for a two stroke and 24-under triumph in suuny and windy conditions on the host Yas Links course.
Former double Abu Dhabi champ Tyrrell had tied Waring for the lead with a 13-footer for birdie at the last in a round of 64 but just moments ahead of Waring draining a monster 40-footer at the par-4 17th to go back to leading by one.

Waring then hung-on to also remarkably also birdie the last from 10-feet and secure a very popular victory and also much to the delight of wife Clare and their children.
“It just hasn’t sunk in yet”, said Waring in speaking with SKY Golf.
“Obviously I still think I’ve got to go and do something else or got to go play another hole or something because I kind of never let myself think that I was over the line at any point. I always knew there was a job to be done and work to be done as I was playing.
So it hasn’t quite hit me yet. I’m sure it will do later on when I’m having a we’re.
“It’s a big moment, a big moment.
“I must say my legs were shaking over that putt at the last but then my golf game has been pretty solid all year and it’s just nice that it all came together this week”.
And when asked by SKY about earning his PGA Tour card, the Dubai-based Englishman smiled saying: “I was quite happy living in Dubai to be honest with you. It’s going to be a long way to travel, a long commute over to America. But I’m looking forward to that. It’s a new challenge. I don’t know if that’s the case. Absolutely made up”.
The win is only his second success in 332 DPWT tournaments for the affable Englishman.
It had taken the former English Amateur champion 190 DPWT events since making his debut at the 2007 Open Championship to capture a maiden Tour title at the 2028 Nordic Masters and now 142 tournaments later Waring is a double Tour champion
As well, Waring earned easily the biggest cash reward of his career, a cool $1.3m first prize cheque and some $200,000 short of a best-ever combined season earner in 2019.
Though there’s the bigger reward with Waring leaping 42 places to sixth on the Race to Dubai money list and also to third among the top-10 who’ll earn automatic 2025 PGA Tour membership.
Waring has contested seven major championships in his career but yet to tee-up in a fully-fledged PGA Tour event.
