England’s highly affable is returning to the DP World Tour next fortnight for a first time in some two years and two months at the Porsche Singapore Open.
Casey, 46, will join the field for the Singapore event again being held on the island nation.
The now LIV attached Casey has won a highly impressive 15 of his 21 pro career victories on the DPWT, including 2019 Porsche sponsored European Open in Germany, and Casey’s always been a good supporter of Porsche hosted events so it would seem there was not much effort in twisting his arm.
As well, Casey’s enjoyed pretty decent success in Asia winning twice in 2005 and also in Korea in 2011.
He will join a high-profile list of players in Singapore that includes defending champion Sergio Garcia, American great Davis Love III, Ireland’s Shanen Lowry, Englishman Matthew Fitzpatrick, one of the game’s rising stars, and the best players from the Asian and Japan Tours.
The only real disappointment is that event has to go ahead without Asian Tour co-sanctioning.
It’s also been well over a decade since Casey played in the 2012 Singapore’s national Open in 2012 – finishing in a tie for 10th– and is looking forward to returning to Sentosa, home of the tournament since 2005.
“It wasn’t a difficult decision to make as I have fond memories of the Singapore Open and Sentosa Golf Club,” said Casey, who is currently ranked an amazing No. 792 in the world.
“I played well there in 2012 and I was impressed by the golf course and the overall set up. It is an ideal event for me to start the year and it will be a very good test early on in the year.”
Casey’s last victory was also a DPWT event in successfully defending the 2019 PGA Tour’s Valspar Championship
