Harrington’s Charity Initiative Turns Into A $200,000 Windfall.

Padraig Harrington’s initiative to carry three sponsors on his clothing for three events in succession has turned into a $200,000 windfall.

Harrington spoke ahead of last month’s Shell Houston Open of his desire to raise money for Gerald Byrne, a cousin to his wife Caroline who was left paralyzed from the waist down following a car accident.

Harrington turned up in Texas wearing three new sponsor logos on his cap and shirt – Identity X, Clune Construction and Blarney.com

And under the banner of his Padraig Harrington Charitable Foundation, the triple Major winner has been able to assure Byrne a $200,000.

“On behalf of the Padraig Harrington Charitable Foundation and my family I would like to say thank you most sincerely to IdentityX, Clune Construction and Blarney.com, who all supported this important initiative,” said Harrington.

“Together they helped us raise over $200,000 which will go some way towards helping Gerard and his family adapt to their unfortunate changed circumstances. I am very thankful to everyone involved for making this possible.”

Gerard said “I am very grateful to Padraig, his sponsors and IdentityX, Clune Construction and Blarney.com for each playing their part in helping us at this difficult time.

“It has been a very tough few months since my accident but this support has given my family a real boost and will be invaluable as we adjust to our new situation. I wish Padraig every success for the season ahead.”

Harrington will revert to his ‘normal’ sponsors for his next event but indicated the various number of caps and shirts he wore over the past three events, and each with the approval of his primary sponsors, will also auctioned off.
