Tiger Woods heads into the festive season saying he’s encouraged by his efforts in returning to competition these past few weeks of December following a more than seven month absence inside the ropes.
Woods, who turns 48 on December 30th, admittedly looked ‘rusty’ in finishing 18th among the 20 players contesting the Hero World Challenge a fortnight ago in the Bahamas.
Then on Sunday, Woods and son Charlie ended the two rounds of the PNC Championship sharing fifth place behind fellow dual Masters winning Bernhard Langer and his son Jason, who took out the title by two strokes on the Ritz Carlton course in Orlando.
“A lot of things are aching a lot more than my ankle, which is the way it goes,” Woods said. “I’ll be able to walk and play. We’ve been working out hard, been able to recover.”

And Woods again spoke of the joy in having his now 14-year-old son, and for a fourth straight occasion, as his playing partner while his daughter, Sam debuted as caddy.
“I think the whole week, to be able to share it with my family. To have both my kids out there the last two days has been so special”, said Woods.
“Just grateful for us to be able to have these types of experiences, for Charlie and I to have done this for four years in a row now since the start of COVID, to be able to come out here, and for all of us as families to come out and enjoy the week, it’s special.
“And for me, I haven’t seen a lot of these guys because a lot of them are on the Champions Tour and quite frankly I haven’t played a lot. So it was nice to catch up with them this week and see all their families.”
Ahead for Woods is his 48th birthday celebration and with the New Year promise of a return to PGA Tour competition, albeit a limited schedule as he had indicated in The Bahamas.
“I know I can still do it,” Woods said. “I can still hit the golf ball. I can still chip. I can still putt.
“Granted it’s also putting it all together for 72 holes. That’s the challenging part of it.”
Though there is still one last task in 2023 for Woods and that will be to turn his attention to helping the Tour’s policy board ratify the 6th June framework agreement with LIV Golf’s financiers.
That aside it’s happy holidays and happy birthday, Tiger.
