McIlroy Excited With Thoughts Of A Maiden Indian Open Victory Takeaway!

Rory McIlroy has captured 45 professional tournaments in 10 different countries but now in India for a first occasion the Grand Slam winning Northern Irishman would like nothing more that make that 46 wins in 11 nations.

McIlroy has made his way to the world’s most populus nation for a first occasion since helping steer Europe to triumph in the Ryder Cup.

McIlroy is making a first visit to India to tee-up in the $US 4 million event taking place on the famed Delhi GC course in the Indian capital.

It took some work to get McIlroy to India but then the current World No. 2 is no stranger to some of the famed India-born who are heavily involved with golf and there’s none better than Hero Moto Corp Executive Chairmain and CEO  Pawan Munjal.

Rors and Dr. Munjal have become good friends and both were clearly excited when Rors touched down in the India captital while there on the first tee Wednesday to greet McIlroy to Munjal’s  home club was the proud Munjaj … See hereunder

“I’ve watched tournaments on this golf course over the years on TV, and you know, the course certainly lives up to its reputation,” said McIlroy.

“I’m so excited to get out there and take it on this week.

“Just excited to feet going and can’t wait to play in front of a lot of Indian fans that will hopefully be out there over the next few days.”

McIlroy, the Race to Dubai leader, is grouped alongside Ryder Cup-winning teammate Viktor Hovland and two-time PGA TOUR winner Ben Griffin over the opening two days in Delhi.

Having seen his lead at the summit of the Race to Dubai Rankings reduced by this season’s three-time DP World Tour winner Marco Penge, he will aim to strengthen his pursuit of a seventh Harry Vardon Trophy with his closest pursuer not in action this week.

India will be the first of four different countries will compete in before the curtain comes down on his Grand Slam winning season as he’s due to compete in the UAE over the first two weeks of November – the November 6th commencing Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship and the following week’s season-ending DP World Tour Championship in nearby Dubai.

McIlroy will end his career-defining season in the first week of Decmeber by crossing the equator for a first visit to Australia in some 12-years to contest the Australian Open in Melbourne, and his opening event on the 2025 DP World Tour schedule.
