Shane Lowry will be hoping he’s not soured a hopeful DP World India Championship victory with what he described as frustraing inward nine on day three of the inaugural event in New Dehli.
Lowry remains well in contention for victory in the $4m event after heading into day three at 12-under and did keep himself in frame for first DP World Tour triumph in over three years when he went out and picked-up three birdies in his opening eight holes.
However his Saturday showing began to turn pear-shape and Lowry clearly was exhibitin his frustraion as he sought to get the better of front-running Keita Nakajima of Japan.

Lowry had holed a 20-footer for birdie at the eighth but then made a mess of the 10th, three-putting from seven feet for bogey before a fourth birdie of his round at the par-4 15th but giving the shot back at the next ahead of finding the green in 2 at the par-5 18th and holing out for a birdie ‘4’ in a second straight round of 69 for a three-round 14-under tally.
It has now heading into the last day of this inagural event just shots back of Nakajima.
“Yeah, I got very frustrated on the back nine today,” said Lowry.
“I started to hit very loose shots and made some silly mistakes. It was disappointing on the back nine.
“I played great on the front nine. I was really in control of my game and with how things were going.
“Made a great par save on nine and then I just missed a short putt on 10, and then it kind of snowballed from there.
“That’s an amazing golf shot. Incredible golf shot!”

“I did my best to get it back on track, and it was nice to birdie the last, but I made a couple of really silly mental errors, but it is what it is. I’m still only three back.
“Keita played great today, so he’ll be hard to beat tomorrow, but there will be a few of us not far behind him, hopefully giving him a run.”
Nakajima said he copied Lowry’s rhythmical swing to fire a bogey-free, seven-under 65 and lead by two shots from Tommy Fleetwood, who also shot 69, on 17-under.
“Ahead of tomorrow, yeah, I’ll be fine,” said Lowry, who will be looking to repeat the brilliance of his opening 64. “I’ll reset tonight and look at the leaderboard.
“I’ve already shown that once this week. I’ll need a low one tomorrow to try and win.”
