‘Dodo’ Says No, No To Adare Manor Captaincy

The victory dust is still stettling on Europe’s stunning Bethpage Park triumph and talk is already underway on who will captain the 2027 European Ryder Cup side at Adare Manor in Ireland.

Double-winning captain Luke Donald led Europe to back-to-back wins and has yet to be approached and also has the courtesy of first right of refusal.

If Donald does elect to step aside then who will take his place in Ireland?

Then is a number who could be approached – Justin Rose, Francesco Molinari, his younger brother Edoardo and the likes of Swede Alex Noren.

Should Donald step aside there is many ready to back Edorado ‘Dodo’  Molinai now a veteran of three European Ryder Cup teams – 2010 as a player and 2023 and ’25 as a highly astute vice-captain.

However, the now 44-year-old Italian clearly wants no part in leading Europe into competition in 2027 at Adare Manor.

“I don’t think I will ever be a Ryder Cup captain,” said Molinari to Fried Egg Golf.

“To be honest, I don’t have the CV to do it. I don’t have the charisma to do it either. To be honest, I think there are much better candidates to be Ryder Cup captain in the future.”

This said, there is surely one decision that would keep ‘Dodo’ among the backroom side in a European Team and that would be if Donald stayed on board as captain for 2027.  If he did then you could bet ‘Dodo’ will again act as a vice-captain.

“I’m very happy with my role in the last two,” Molinari added.

“If someone else is the captain, or if Luke Donald is captain again, and they want me along for the ride, I’ll do it as many times as they want me to do it.”
