Next week’s 45th hosting of the Ryder Cup should promise to be a joyful occasion for the men’s professional game as a dozen of Europe’s best male golfers, and under the leadership of Luke Donald, face a dozen USA golfing rivals in seeking to celebrate becoming only the fifth European Team to win the coveted gold trophy on opposition US soil.
Since Europe replaced GB & Ireland as the USA’s Ryder Cup opponent they’ve won the Ryder Cup on Stars and Stripes soil on just four occasions – 1987 Muirfield Village, 1995 Oak Hill, 2004 Oakland Hills and Medinah in 2012.
Donald’s men will next week seek to ensure for just a 13th occasion since 1979 the week will end with a European triumph in the past 23 matches.
It will be also just a second hosting of the Ryder Cup on New York State soil after European captain Bernard Gallacher led Europe to a stunning one point triumph over his USA rival Hal Sutton at Oak Hill in 1995.

However as the opening ceremony to the 2025 Ryder Cup draws ever closer so too does the US Presidential fear and concern that may result in turmoil should President Donald Trump make his way to Bethpage Park Black.
It’s little wonder why Ryder Cup organizers have asked Trump to seriusly consider posoning his visit to the opening match of the tournament and this following the chaotic scenes resulating from his U.S. Open Tennis finals attendance.
As we know, Trump attended the men’s singles final between Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner at Arthur Ashe Stadium last Sunday, resulting in massive lines that delayed the match by nearly 50 minutes.
Airport-style scanners were installed outside the stadium, and fans were required to empty their pockets and submit to body scans before entering the venue, leading to hundreds of empty seats during the national anthem, during which the president was loudly booed.
Around 50,000 people are expected to attend the Ryder Cup each day, almost twice the attendance of the U.S. Open, and organizers have no scope to change the start times and it’s understood Ryder Cup organizers have implored Trump to skip the opening tees and attend later in the day, preferably after lunch or midafternoon, to quell security concerns and allow fans to catch the opening moments of the tournament.
Whether Trump will agree to this request remains unknown.
European Ryder Cup Captain Luke Donald is one of the calmest individuals you could meet but the even admits his team will need to prepare for any chaos that may rise by Trump’s visit after his appearance at the U.S. Open threatened to overshadow the event.

“We were told that he’s coming”, said Donald earlier this week after his team spent two days getting acclimatised to the host venue.
“We don’t know the details yet, and I think the tours are talking with the PGA of America to get more information. I guess he will want to be on the first tee,” Donald said.
“Again, we understand that he’s coming, and both teams will be ready for that. There were some delays at the tennis, and I think we’re probably all aware of that, but hopefully they have learnt from that.
“It’s a big process, obviously, to get a president to come to an event. There’s a lot of security and everything. It takes some work, and the PGA of America’s job is to make sure it’s seamless. I think the crowd is probably going to be loud no matter what.”
A PGA spokesperson said, “While President Trump has indicated interest in attending the 2025 Ryder Cup at Bethpage, specific details have not been confirmed. As we get closer to Ryder Cup week, we will communicate any relevant updates that may impact the Ryder Cup experience.
“Our priority remains delivering a seamless, secure, and first-class event for all our guests.”
One can only hope the 2025 Ryder Cup is all about golf and Europe looking to retain the Ryder Cup and Keegan Bradley’s men seeking to regain the golden trophy and certainly not one golf-loving politican spoiling it for all.
