Exclusive …..
Michael Bloomberg proudly occupied the role of the Mayor of New York City for more than two decades.
Bloomberg served as the 108th mayor of New York City for three terms, from 2002 to 2013, and was a candidate for the 2020 Democratic nomination for President of the United States.
He is the majority owner and co-founder of Bloomberg L.P., and was its CEO from 1981 to 2001 and again from 2014 to 2023.
Bloomberg also loves his golf and that was soon evident after GolfbyTourMiss’s Bernie McGuire politely introdued himself earlier this morning while he played a practice round ahead of this week’s Alfred Dunhill Links Championship on the Kingsbarns Links course, and again one of three host venues for the $5m tounament.
And while there’s some 9 million living in New York City there was just the now 83-year-old Bloodberg and James, his St. Andrews Links caddy walking as a two-ball kver the Kingsbarns Links this morning.
THE VERY BEST & THE UGLIEST OF UGLY ….
New York City Major signs praise @KingsbarnsGL & @VisitScotGolf ⛳️but slams behaviour @VisitNewYorkUSA fans at @rydercup
“None of the fans can play the game like the pros, so why are they booking” sayS a 3-time past #NYC major

“I am again very honoured to be invited back to the Alfred Dunhill Links tournament”, he said.
“They alwyas invite like 100 people to the event, so I glad to be one of them and to be extended an invitation again next year, as well (smiling).
“So, to have the chance play three great golf courses and my favourite, Kingsbarns Links is just wonderful. There is a great number of superb links courses around the world, and they’re each tough in their own right but I just find Kingsbarns unique”.
Uninque enough, says Bloomberg in the handful of holes Bernie walked with him that he was finding the fairways and greens and with his only issue, and given he is into his 80s, that he just didn’t have the length off the tee nor the power to find greens in regulation.
“I just like playing golf courses, like my favourite here at Kingsbarns where I can find the ball and where I can enjoy hitting the ball a length off the forward tees that at least I can play.
“There is some golf coursed like Bethpage Park, what we have been watching on television where I could be still hitting balls the next day and not get around.
“So, I just continue to remain determined I will be able to master this form of the game where as my golf god’s keep reminding me ‘I don’t think so’ (smiling)”
Bloomberg is a good friend of Kingsbarns Links owner Art Dunkley and with both Americans also members at the famed Cypress Point on the Californian West Coast. Blomberg’s clubs he brought with him to the UK also proudly was sporting a Sunningdale members badge on his golf bag.
Of course, with his name forever synmonous with New York there was no avoiding talk of the events of last weekend in his Bloomberg’s beloved Big Apple and with Bloomberg very critical of the fans.
“I just thought the Bethpage fans were very difficult and I don’t know why but then none of the fans can play the game as well as the guys out there, so why where they booing?”, said Bloomberg.
“There’s reasons why the fans get themselves like that and it could be they woke-up on the wrong side of the bed or someone said something to upset or whatevere.
“The thing is the players are out there are trying as hard as they can. They are playing the game for a living and they are doing a good job. It’s fair to say that there is probably nobody in the audience nor among the countless number watching the matches on television who play as well as the competitors, so what are they booing?
“And my message is whatever the format, play it!
“If the format doesn’t fit you blaming the designer is something I would never do”.
I asked Bloomberg as a New Yorker was he embarrassed to see and here what was transpiring outside of the Ryder Cup ropes?
“I just think they shouldn’t do it”, Bloomberg responded.
“They should be all looking at a mirror and decide what they are about to say will cause embarrassment”.
On a more positive note, Bloomberg expressed to Bernie his delight in having got to know so many of the game’s greats in the course of visiting so many pro tournament venues.
“I have been forturnate in my life to play golf and have the opportunity and tee-up alongsie ahead of tournaments alongside players now know pon a first name basis, among the best in our game including Tiger Woods”, he said.
I’m not a spectator and I never like to do things … I’ll never be a great golfer and I know that but I like to keep trying. When I get to hit that one great shot that says ‘Yes, you can do it” and all I need to do is replicate that”.
