Donald Slams Ryder Cup Host Hotel – Bed Linen, Shampoos & Annoying Lack Of Room Light Control

There’s no denying Luke Donald is the happiest man in the world after his European Ryder Cup team superbly overcame a dogged USA host side on the final day to retain the Ryder Cup.

Donald’s men fought off the abuse and their rivals to eventuall win by two points and become only the sixth European Team to win on American soil at the 45th hosting of the competion.

The champers was flowing well into the early hours following Donald brilliantly leading Europe to 15 points to 13 points victory on the host Bethpage Park Black course.

Donald also had proudly created Ryder Cup history becoming the first to win the Ryder Cup home and away as a player and as a captain.

However, the always proper and polite Englishman was not all smiles and revealing a nuisanse of a kind that he and his team and support staff shamefully had to deal with and here we are not talking off the fans.

 


No, Donald pulled no punches and did hid his digust with the European Team host Garden City Hotel at Garden City on New York’s Long Island and some 25-miles from Farmingdale and location of the Bethpage Park Black course.

In certainly a never before revelation of its Donald said after retaining the Ryder Cup: ‘My job is literally to give these guys a better chance to win. It can be as simple as some very small things.

“I’ll give you an example. At the hotel rooms this week, the doors to our hotel rooms had a big crack that let in light. We put different shampoos that had a better smell.

At this point, a victorious Rory McIlroy chimed in: ‘It’s Le Labo, if anyone was wondering.’

After some laughs, Donald continued: ‘We changed the bedding because the beds weren’t very good, and they just had sheets, and we created much nicer beds so guys could sleep. They could have more energy. Those are just little things. I’m going into some really small details.’

It was here Shane Lowry, whose 18th hole birdie putt secured the win for Europe, remarked, ‘We won’t need to change the bed linen at Adare Manor; I can tell you that.’

After singling out the Euro 1500 per night price tag, Donald continued by revealing measures taken by his support staff to improve the hotel conditions: “It’s just taking the time and having the care that you want to do everything you can to kind of give these guys the best opportunity,” he said. “You want create an environment where they can succeed.

‘These are 12 amazing players, we know that. You’re just trying to, again, put them in a position where they feel comfortable.’

While it’s unclear what kind of bed linens they purchased, a quick look at the Le Labo website shows that their shampoo runs as much as $63 per bottle. at the 4-star Garden City Hotel – almost 25 minutes away from the course.

Going online to the hotel’s website, the cheapest room costs $418 per night which would translate to near $40,000 for Donald and his 12-man team only.

And you thought winning golf tournaments was just about what goes on inside the ropes.
