Reed Heading To Royal Portrush With Bethpage Park Black Very Much In Mind

Patrick Reed is a three-time USA Ryder Cup veteran having competed in the 2014, the winning 2016 side and also was a member of the 2018 Stars and Stripes team.

Now with the 2025 Ryder Cup a matter of months away and Reed is not tuling out represeenting his country for a fourth time.

Of course, Reed is a member of LIV Golf and the golf world knows that there is too few doors open for those, either American-born or European, in breaking into Ryder Cup team.

Bryson DeChambeau is currently lying fifth on USA automatic qualifying points table and strong finish at next month’s Open Championship could very well see the double US Open winner compete in what would be a third USA Ryder Cup side.

Though ‘Captain America’ as Reed is affectionately well down the USA points table, lying 33rd and needing something special like victory in the year’s final major if he’s going to be competing for his country at Bethpage Page Black.

Though that’s exacty what Reed is thinking ahead of teeing-up in less than a month at Royal Rortrush where he finished 10th in 2019.

“It’s always on your mind”, Reed responded when asked this very question ahead of Friday’s LIV Golf Dallas.

“Anytime I get to represent our country, it means a lot to me. For me personally, I’m always thinking about trying to make every team.

“Obviously being a part of LIV where we don’t get points, it’s an uphill battle, but really for me it’s focused on playing some great golf and having a chance. It’s really going to come down to the Open Championship, having a chance to win there. You have a really good showing and play well there, then you just never know.

“It is looking like no matter what it’s going to rely on a pick unless I go ahead and win the Open. Really the only way I can focus on the Ryder Cup is that one week, go out and give all I have and have a chance to win”.

There’s denying the worth of Reed’s presence in a USA Ryder Cup and if American captain Keegan Bradl’ey could do no wrong if picking Reed as a ‘wildcard choice in what will be one of the hottest-contested major sporing event in recent years.
