Scot Calum Hill is full of praise for new caddy and fellow Stuart Davidson after being assured of playing all four rounds of the 82nd hosting Open D’Italia in Tuscany.
Hill toughed out the tight, winding and also windswept layout posting scores of 67 and 71 to be just inside the top-30 at two-under on the Argentario host course.
Hill, 30, heads into the weekend round six shots behind the Spaniard who posted a bogey-free 65 to lead the event by a shot, and with the leading two players not otherwise exempt gaining entry into next month’s 153rd Open Championship.

The Monte Argentario course is new to hosting the DP World Tour and with the par-70 Tuscany layout measuring some 6,780-yards taking plenty of prisoners among them defending champ Marcel Seim crashing out near last place with rounds of 71 and 82 at 12-over.
Hill has the similarly aged Davidson on the bag for a first time this week and with the Royal Burgess caddy first coming to real note in caddying for Aussie Min Woo Lee when he captured the 2021 Scottish Open.
Davidson split with Lee at the end of 2024 and became available to Hill this week.
And the move could not have been timely for the two-time Tour winning Hill as since capturing the Joburg Open in March, Hill has struggled contesting nine events missing the cut in three, withdrawing from another and a best finish of a T36th in Taiwan from his other five Tour starts.
Hill, who had legendary caddy Phil ‘Wobbly’ Morbey’ once on the bag, said: “This is the first tournament with Stuart on the bag and it’s been very solid.
“He’s been very good in guiding me around some of the trickier holes on this golf course while we’ve combined to hole some nice putts, so I’m really pleased.
“I was on the lookout for a new caddy and after having a few weeks with a French caddy who was very good but then Stuart became available.
“I was aware Stuart may be available so we had been in touch for some while we are are of a similar age and he’s got a lot of experience and already accomplished some great things caddying. So, it’s something we wanted to give a try and so far, it’s worked out well”.
Fellow Scot Ewen Ferguson posted a one-over 71 to be sharing 38th place at one-under.
Fellow Scots Scott Jamieson (71 & 70 – 141), Grant Forrest (68 & 74- 142), Richie Ramsay (73 & 70 – 173) missed the level par cut.
