Mickelson ‘Excited To Have A Chance’ At A First Win In Well Over Three Years

Six-time major winning Phil Mickelson says he’s ‘excited to have a chance’ at a first win in well over three years heading to the final round of LIV Golf Miami.

Mickelson, 54, posted a second round of a one-over 73 for a two-under two round total to be trailing just three shots behind Bryson DeChambeau ahead of the last day on the famed Blue Monster Trump Doral course.

‘Lefty’, as Mickelson has long been affectionately known, has won 57 titles in his career but with the last being in November 2021 at the Champions Tour hosted Charles Schwab Championship.

Mickelson is captain of the LIV Hyflyers team but is yet to taste success in the LIV ranks.

That could all change later today, and with Mickelson heading to Augusta National as a three-time Masters winner and having finished runner-up two years ago.

And after two very testing, windy days in suburban Miami, Mickelson spoke of the major championship feel of the LIV event and his excitement ahead of the final day.

“We enjoy the challenge for sure. We love the times where you can really go low and get it going, but this is a major championship feel”, he said

“It’s a major championship difficulty and certainly major championship pins. It’s been a really tough test, and you had to fight hard to make pars, and gosh, for me, some places I had to fight hard to make bogeys.

“I’m excited to be here and to have a chance. I’m hitting a lot of really good shots in the wind, too, and that challenge of having to hit in crosswinds and shape it and control your trajectory, it’s a really great test of golf. Really a test at the highest level”.
