Aussie Rules Back-To-Back In USA – Last Week Min Woo In Houston & Now Leishman In Miami

Aussie Rules continues to be the golfing theme in the USA.

Last week it was Min Woo Lee winning for a first time on the PGA Tour in Houston and now a week Marc Leishman has won for a first occasion with victory in LIV Golf Miamil

Leishman came from behind to brilliantly secure his maiden LIV Golf truimph and in the process help deliver his all-Aussie Ripper GC team to success at Trump Doral.

Leishman, who last tasted success on PGA Tour in 2020, held his nerve making a crucial three metre final putt for par as 2017 Masters champ Sergio Garcia playing behind him, put his approach to the 18th into the waters of the famed ‘Blue Monster’ on host course at the Trump National Doral Golf Course.

Leishman’s win also earned the ‘Down Under’ golfer a whopping $6.5m AUD winner’s cheque.

The errant shot from Garcia, which resulted in a bogey, handed Leishman, who also recovered from an errant final tee shot, a one-shot win, his first since joining LIV Golf and also along with team captain Cam Smith and fellow Aussies Lucas Herbert and Matt Jones with the LIV team time for a fourth time as a team.

“It was an unbelievable leaderboard, I saw all the guys right behind me and I knew the holes I had to finish off on,” he Leishman after a bogey-free, final round of 68.

“I played some of the best golf I have ever played today, especially coming off Singapore a couple of weeks ago when I beat, I think, three people.

“Confidence wasn’t overly high but I knew things were looking pretty good. I was playing good golf and I showed that today.

“To win out here, you are paying against tough fields every week, it’s a lot to sink in.”

And as mentioned above, Leishman’s win comes a week after fellow Aussie Min Woo Lee’s breakthrough PGA Tour victory at the Houston Open.

Sadly, while Lee is heading to next week’s Masters Leishman is not exempt.

In fact, Smith with be the only Ripper GC member now bound Augusta National, courtesy of the exemption he received for winning the 2022 Open Championship at St. Andrews.
