When is the last time Phil Mickelson won a tournament?
The now 54-year-old, who won a first PGA Tour title as an amateur in January 1991, has captured 45 Tour events and a further dozen around the globe.
It’s been nearly four years since the golfer affectionately known as ‘Lefty’ last won an ‘Under-50s’ tournament and that in capturing a sixth Major Championship with a second PGA Championship in 2021 at Kiawah Island.
Later that year in October 2021, Mickelson won for the third time in four career starts on the PGA Tour ‘Over-50’ Champions shooting a final round 4-under-par 68 to win the inaugural Constellation Furyk & Friends while a month later he won the season-ending Charles Schwab Cup Championship in Phoenix, Arizona, with a final round six-under par 65. This victory was Mickelson’s fourth win in six career starts on PGA Tour Champions.

Though with a round to go, Mickelson is just three shots off the lead with the final round to play in the LIV Golf Hong Kong.
Mickelson shares fourth place at eight-under and three adrift of the leading trio of Paul Casey, Sergio Garcia and Peter Uihein who lead on the host Hong Kong Golf Club course in suburban Fanling on 11-under.
This week is his 26th LIV event since making his debut in the breakaway league in February 2023 at LIV Mayakoba and with his best finish being a T6th result a year ago at LIV Jeddah.
Getting onto the LIV Golf website and then onto Mickelson’s profile page it says: “A six-time major winner who spent more than 25 years in the world top 50, Mickelson now performs the role of respected elder statesman with the enduring charisma that made him so popular with golf fans.
He was one of the most significant initial recruits to LIV Golf in 2022, and combines his captaincy of the HyFlyers team with a burning desire to bring the game to the next generation of players and spectators”.
Yes, elder stateman is how most now look on Mickelson but he’s out to hopefully change that Sunday in Hong Kong and remind the golf world Lefty still knows how to win.
“I would love nothing more — one of my goals is to win a LIV event”, he said.
“Okay, but the experience of sharing it with teammates, we’ve not won as a team. I’ve not ever won as a team in professional golf outside of the Ryder Cup, and even that was very few times, and it would mean a lot for — I think that would probably mean a little more, which is very unusual to say in a game that’s such an individual sport.
“That would be special for us, especially the way we’ve worked hard together to come back from a rough year to put it together and compete, and to have early success here in week 3 on LIV, again, there’s another final round, but we have the guys that can do it”.
Bring it home, Phil
