Top Scot Robert MacIntyre is back flying high after ridding himself of being kept awake by the sound of landing aircraft at nearby Changi Airport in Singapore.
MacIntyre revealed he had been enduring some restless nights since arriving post 23-hours travelling from Florida to the tiny island nation earlier in the week for the Porsche Singapore Classic.
His lack of sleep was evident in Friday’s round of 73 when he went out in 31 shots but stalled horribly in coming home in 42.
The Oban lefty turned that around on day two to be nine shots fewer with a flawless 64 for an eight-under tally and just four off the lead with a round to play in the rain-affected, now three rounds on the host Laguna National course.
MacIntyre said: “Last night was probably the best I slept since coming here, I didn’t think the planes were landing in my room.
“But no, look I’m here to compete at a golf tournament, and tomorrow, hopefully I’ve got a chance.
“The planes weren’t landing in my hotel room”.

“Yesterday’s round I was struggling late on. I think the bogey on 12 took the wind out my sails.
“I was running on a bit of adrenaline and doing nicely. I’ve been playing beautifully the last few weeks. So yesterday, I should have walked off there, at worst, four under par, but I’ve walked off one over.
“So it’s one of those days where, (I told myself) you know what, I’m gonna go out there today and play the exact same way and just pick off a few more. And that’s what I’ve done without doing anything special.
“I just cruised down, kept in play, driving it really well and the putter warmed up, and it was nice.”
MacIntyre’s second day effort was more like the MacIntyre that we’ve seen since the start of this new season capped by a T6th and the WM Phoenix Open a super top-10 in last week’s PGA Tour flagship Players Championship.
However while just four shots back of the lead, it still could be a big ask for the Scot with just a round to play in the event when Thurday’s opening day was washed out by some nine inches of rain.
He said: “It’s difficult now that we’ve cut the tournament to 54 holes, but Mother Nature — we can’t solve that, 54 holes, obviously 18 more to go and if I go again tomorrow and do the same as I did today, I’m gonna have a chance.
The Ryder Cup star has been in fine form in recent weeks that has included a T6th at the WM Phoenix Open and a strong top-10 effort at last week’s Players Championship.
And the Oban lefty also singling out his Bounce Sports Management team for praise.
“I think I’ve got one of the best teams in the world around me,” he added.
“It’s not just me, look I’m a golfer, I go out there every day and do my job, but you need help to do your job. Mike Burrows *caddy), to Simon Shanks (coach). The whole lot of them put trust in me, but I also put a lot of trust in them.
“They give me a kick up the back side when I need it and they also bring me back down to earth once I’ve done something well, but they also keep me level headed.
“I just trust the guys around me and don’t be scared to invest in myself. Although I need to trust them, I also need to trust myself. That’s probably my biggest asset.”
Now if MacIntyre should win in Singapore he will become the second Scot to do after Colin Montgomerie won the same event in 2004 and on the same host Laguna National course.
