Top-Scot Robert MacIntyre returns to The Masters looking to beat hot favourite Rory McIlroy ‘as bad as everyone else in the Augusta field’.
MacIntyre will be returning to the hallowed Augusta National course early next month for just a third occasion, and a first since 2022.
In contrast, World No. 2 ranked McIlroy will be teeing-up for a 17th straight year since making his debut in 2009.
McIlroy was runner-up in 2022 while he’s had six other top-10s as he strives to break his Augusta hoodoo and win the one major he needs to join golf’s elite, and still five-member Grand Slam Club.
And while MacIntyre spoke exclusively to GolfByTourMiss/Record Sport in declaring he feels now ripe to win a first major, the two-time winning PGA Tour golfer admits his now 37-year-old Rome Ryder Cup winning team-mate is the player to beat.

MacIntyre said: “I’m trying to beat him as bad as everyone else in the field.
“I played with him on the Sunday at Bay Hill, though he’d obviously changed the equipment but then on that Sunday, changed back to his normal woods.
“We chatted about life and schedules and whatnot, but I mean, the guy is one of the best players to ever play our game, especially from Europe, and I’ve looked up to him for many years.
“Rory’s going to be one of the favorites playing the Masters, and that’s because he’s won so many, so many big events leading up to winning.
“Obviously winning as he did at Pebble Beach was a different style of golf course and winning the Players was something he’d done before.
“So, going to the Masters, the pressure is probably going to be on him, because it’s the only one he’s missing just now and but I’m going to be there too, and that’s something that is a dream of mine is to win, to win a Masters”.
MacIntyre was commenting after drenching rain halted any play on day one of the Porsche Singapore Classsic.

Two past Masters champions are in contention in the Asian Tour’s International Series Macau.
Texan Patrick Reed posted a bogey-free round of 63 to lead the field just four months after winning the nearby Hong Kong Open.
And fellow Augusta winner Sergio Garcia signed for 65 as he seeks further World Rankings points and place in the European Ryder Cup side.
