Canadian-born golfer Adam Hadwin has turned on the apologies after his angry antic on the second day of last week’s Valspar Championship at the Innisbrook Resort.
After playing a poor chip shot Hadwin showed his disgust by slamming his club into the ground but then getting the shock of his life when water began spraying everywhere, given he’d unknowlingly hit a sprinkler head in the thickish grass on the host Copperhead course.
With thanks to ‘ForePlay’ video footage of what transpired is hereunder
“I didn’t know there was a sprinkler there when I struck the ground, so I was really more embarrassed than anything else,” said the 2017 winning Valspar champ speaking to Golf.com
“Everyone who has ever played golf knows how frustrating it can be, but I have to control myself a little bit more. I’ve got no excuse but to gain control out here.”
He then joked, “I guess my real motivation is to give my wife [Jessica Hadwin] less to tweet about.”
Actually, Hadwin’s wife Jessica and who enjoys 44.6K ‘X’ followers went straight onto her account after the incident posting the following:

Hadwin missed the Valspar halfway cut and no doubt in returning home husband and wife talked things over and with Hadwin expressing his apologies by first sending a video apology and then, as he should have, agreeing to pay for the repairs to the sprinkler head.
However, we have also learnt via an X message from a Ryan Stewart, the Scottish-born Director of Agronomy at the Innisbrook Resort that Hadwin also bought lunch for the entire maintenance and greens staff.
“A big thank you to Adam Hadwin @jessicahadwin for paying for that sprinkler head and buying our staff lunch,” Stewart wrote on X.” That was a great touch and our staff loved it. Thank you again.”

Of course, it doesn’t excuse Hadwin’s actions but he accepted responsibility and ‘made up’ for his golfing indiscretion in a pretty nice way.
So, if you’re ever going to show your disgust on the golf course by slamming your club into the ground, just make sure there is not a buried sprinkler head.
