Newly-crowned champ Thomas Detry has revealed a key to his super hot Phoenix Open success – an icy bath before tee-off.
Yes, the 32-year-old father of two jumped into a ice bath in his hotel room hours before birdieing his closing four holes and not only capture a maiden PGA Tour title but also become the first Belgium-born to win the Tour, and to be now among just three Europeans to win the Phoenix Open since the inaugural tournament way back in 1932.
So, what’s the about a ice bath?
“I’ve had the tendency of when I’ve felt under pressure, and it’s been every single week, honestly when I’m in contention, heart racing, I started forward thinking a little bit, kind of getting ahead of myself, not really being in the present,” he said when asked what he may have done differently heading into the final round.

“I had an ice bath this morning, which was nice.
“I felt like this was kind of what I did yesterday morning, as well, and I felt like yesterday morning I actually felt pretty comfortable on the first tee and I did the exact same routine today, and I actually felt comfortable on the first tee. I didn’t really have any nerves.
“I felt like I had my full mind to it and I was just ready to play my own game and not try to chase something”.
The ice bath clearly did the trick for the Belguim, also colllecting a cool $1.6m first prize cheque and jumping 36 spots to be the new World No. 22nd ranked golfer,
