After missing the cut in his opening two events of the new wraparound season proir to the Christmas break, it’s been all good news for Syme post the Festive Season with a pair of solid top-30 efforts in Dubai and last week at Ras Al Khaimah.
He said: “I’m really enjoying this New Year of golf, and after the Christmas break that came at the right time for me.
“I didn’t do all that well in the two events I played down in South Africa before the break. Looking back, it also had been a very busy 2024 off the course getting married in July and also moving house, and also balancing all that with travelling to tournaments.
“So, it was just so good to chill out over the Festive period in our new home spending quality time together and with our dog, so much so, it was actually tough leaving the house.
“Then to come back out for these events in the Middle East as play as well as I have, I’m really pleased”.
Syme’s New Year showings mirror the past few years as the now 29-year-old has been a strong starter in a new year.
Though this week’s Bahrain event will be his 173rd tournament since a first Tour start back in 2017 and with Syme saying he draws inspiration off the likes of top Scot Bob MacIntyre and good friend Ewen Ferguson is seeking a first ‘W’.
Syme said: “What Bob has been doing and also guys like Ewen, is inspirational. I played alongside these guys virtually all my life, since my junior days.
“It’s just great to see them winning and playing well, as you can draw off what they are achieving”.
