Scheffler: He’s A Beast Declares Schauffele

In the absence of an injured Scottie Scheffler, World No. 2 Xander Schauffele would seem is the player to beat at this week’s opening event of 2025 – The Sentry on the host Plantation course at Kapalua in Hawaii.

Schauffele, 31 won both the PGA Championship and The Open last year while he enjoyed a remarkable 13 other top-10s in 2024 including runner-up in both the Players, Wells Fargo and FedEx St. Jude championships.

As well, one of his top-1os was a share of 10th a year ago at The Sentry.

Though as the game’s present World No. 2 Schauffle was asked cheekily what it was like being the next best ranked golfer under Scheffler, who won a second Masters and eight other events last year including an Olympic Gold medal.

Schaffler said: “I’m just kind of cruising around right where I want to be.

“It’s a wild time. Winning two majors and being further away, or closer to the 30th-ranked player than the 1st is.

“Hat’s off to Scottie. He’s a beast (smiling)”.

Schauffele, who is also among five players teeing-up in this week’s $20m event as a multiple winner in 2024, was also asked his reaction to Scheffler’s absence this week.

“It’s a huge bummer”, he said.

“I hope he’s okay. I heard he was going to be back for American Express, then you hear he has surgery. I didn’t feel, like, too comfortable texting him.

“It’s weird, because we’re competitors, but at the same time he’s such a nice guy, him and Mere. I just hope he’s fine. We’re a lot better off with him here in Hawaii than not, so hopefully he gets a full recovery and he’s fine.”
