“So, it was a nice little start to the day as I’m one not who tends not to get too excited on my birthday and keep it a quite day but then it was a great.
“Also a nice first hole reward to birdie the first holing a nice eight-footer”.
Fleetwood travelled the short distance to Dubai a week ago after leading his GB&I side to a comprehensive success in the inaugural Team Cup in Abu Dhabi.
The Englishman’s first event of a new DP World Tour regular season featured rounds of 71, 68, 74 and a closing 70 for a five-under tally as he headed to the chubhourse with a share of 21st place in the $US 9m event and the opening Rolex Series event of a new season.
“After Thurday’s round where I felt I really struggled, I felt like I practiced really well and I felt like I played a lot of really good stuff”, said Fleetwood.
“There was a couple of poor holes but then a great eagle on the 13th hole on Friday but overall I bit frustrating as I couldn’t get anything going.
“Also nice to get a scorebard back in the pocket”.
