Firstly, it was a great pleasure to meet my namesake and also to congratulate Michael on his victory in the Asian Tour’s Black Mountain Championship.
American Michael Maguire is looking to end his second full Asian Tour on a high in banking victory in this week’s PIF Saudi International at the Riyadh Golf Club.
Maguire celebrated his 32nd birthday during the week in capturing his maiden Tour title some six weeks ago the Black Mountain Championship.
The Asian-based golfer defeated newly-crowned 2024 Asian Tour No. 1 John Catlin in a play-off to win through thru in Thailand.
In his four events since that first win, Maguire had enjoyed two top-10s along with a T41st in Hong Kong and a 28th in last week’s International Series Qatar to be lying fifth on the 2024 Asian Tour money-list, and there’s nothing more he’d like to do is end a best year in the pro ranks as a double Tour champion in this week’s rich $5m tournament.
“I’m excited ahead of this final event as there is triple the points and still so much to play for, and in coming back to a course I know so well, and feeling very comfortable teeing-up this week”, said Maguire after a Sunday practice round of the Riyadh GC course.

“As well, there is bigger spring in my step coming back here to Riyadh knowing I have won on the Asian Tour.
“So, I’ll be out there trying to ride that momentum as it’s been a great season, and to be here is just as added bonus.
“Of course, playing this week’s host course is vastly different to Black Mountain where you play a lot of uphill and downhill shots whereas we competing this week on desert course and will no elevation changes.
“This week it is all going to be about keeping your ball in play and managing to avoid any mistakes.
“And while it has been a long season since that first event of the year in February though it didn’t feel that the season didn’t really get going to that first week in August but then there’s still plenty of gas in the tank”.
With his Asian Tour card assured to the end of the 2026 season following his Black Mountain success, Maguire is keen to reinvent the wheel or change anything in his game.
“I’ll just go about the same things and not change too much that worked so well for me this year, and just keep on what i have been doing well”, added McGuire
And there is another aspect of competing on the Asian Tour than McGuire realises won’t change and the amount of air miles he’ll continue to clock.
“Woh! Probably a 150,000”, he said smiling.
“It’s been crazy the amount of air miles you do accumulate but then I have been living in Asia, back in Cambodia and Vietnam, so there is any off weeks for me I will stay out in Asia as flying back home is just too much.
“It’s just so much easier to set-up shop in Asia and besides I really enjoy the Asian food.
“And what would be really sweet it to end my season this week on a real high”.
Footnote …
