Graham Gets Off To An Adventurous Start As Sullivan Shakes Off Thumb Injury To Snare Leopard Creed Lead

Rookie pro Gregor Graham enjoyed an adventurous affair on his DP World Tour debut at Leopard Creek in South Africa.

Graham, 21 received a late invitation last Sunday into the co-sanctioned Alfred Dunhill Championship and teed-up in a first play-for-pay event and signing for a one-over 73.

The young Scot was two-under after just five holes but came unstuck over the next five, posting one birdie but also two bogeys and two doubles before regrouping to birdie 12 and 13 ahead a further bogey on 14 before a sixth birdie of his day at 15.

Graham’s effort has him lying just outside the top-80 in a reduced fielf of 155 after Gleneagles attached Callum Hill pulled out after nine holes with injury.

Scott Jamieson leads the Scots having moved to four-under through 15 holes but dropping three shots in his closing trio.

Fifer Connor Syme signed for a level par 72.

England’s Andy Sullivan shook off a right-thumb injur to grab eight birdies in a blemish-free 64 to lead the way by a shot with an eight-under 64.

Sullivan, 37 is looking to end a more than four-year winless drought and, if so, capture a third of five Tour wins in the Rainbow Nation.

He said: “It was a surprise to do well today as I didn’t get much practice last week with the thumb being the way it was, so nice to get out there today and put in a good score.

“I’ve always had that feel good factor each time I come back to South Africa as I won my first Tour title down here (2015 South African Open), so I always get a good following and support, and I always feel comfortable down here and enjoy myself”.

Sullivan has now led a first round in his DP World Tour career for a seventh occasion and gone on two win twice.
