Scotland’s David Drysdale produced a stunning back nine turnaround in his fortunes on day one of the five-round 2025 Asian Tour qualifier at Hua Hin in Thailand.
Drysdale, 49 was out off the 10th tee on the host A/B course at the Lake View Resort but soon was back-pedalling in posting a horror four-over ‘7’ at the par-3 12th hole in his quest to regain his Asian Tour card after a disappointing 2024 season.
It got no better for the affable Scot in dropping shots at the 14th and 17th holes to have covered the outward nine holes with a six-over 40 and staring at the worst possible start he and caddying wife, Vicky could have imagined.
Great fightback from ‘Double-D’ day one 2025 @asiantourgolf Q-School at Hau Hin

However as we all know golf is a crazy game and as just as it can quickly frustrate the life out of you and it can also just as quickly turn around to be your best friend.
And that is what transpired for the Drysdale’s in birdieing both the first and second holes before a third birdie of the round at the fifth hole on the scorecard and then a stunning hat-trick of birdies commencing from the seventh hole in an inward half of just 30 strokes to get back into red figures at one-under before proudly heading to the clubhouse after one of the couples craziest ‘chalk-and-cheese’ rounds for some time.
So, from making the turn at six-over and at near the bottom of the board in the 206-player field Drysdale brilliantly clawed his way back into a share of 64th place and back in sight of the leading duo at eight-under.
Fellow Scot Marc Warren, and making his debut appearance in seeking Asian Tour membership, posted a level par 71 while Macau-based Scot Ollie Roberts signed for a two-over 73
South Korean Kyungnam Kang and India’s Ajeetesh Sandhu lead the field in posting eight-under 63s with Kang finishing his round eagle, birdie.
“Everything felt good,” said Kang. “All parts of my game worked together. And I got a bit lucky on the last.”
The 41-year-old has been a professional for 20 years and spent most of that time playing on his home tour, where he won on 11 occasions, while he also had a spell on the Japan Golf Tour from 2016 to 2019.
He added: “The Asian Tour is doing so well; I thought it was time to get my card.”
The top-35 and ties after the five rounds will earn 2025 Asian Tour membership.
