Scotland’s Connor Syme now has a shot at earning around $1.5m if he captures this coming week’s season-ending and limited field DP World Tour Championship in Dubai and all thanks to Ryder Cup heroes Ludwig Aberg and Jon Rahm.
Syme learnt of his good fortune soon after posting a closing 70 to share 65th place in the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship but in the bigger Race to Dubai picture dropping to 51st and a place outside this week’s 50 players only $10m Race to Dubai closing event.
Though Tour officials advised Syme soon after the close of play in Abu Dhabi that Aberg at 21st and Rahm 38th on the money-list entry list will not be teeing-up and thus opening the door for the leading 52 players with Syme securing one place and the No. 52 ranked Italian Francesco Laporta grabbing the other.
It means also Syme now joining fellow Scots Bob MacIntyre and Ewen Ferguson at the Jumeirah Estates course and with Ferguson staying at No. 32nd on the Race to Dubai following his share of 23rd in Abu Dhabi and also with the leading 25 post this week’s season-ender to earn entry into next year’s 153rd hosting of the Open Championship at Royal Portrush.

Unfortunately, it is season over for Scots Calum Hill and Grant Forrest finishing their year respectively 54th and 59th on the money list though Forrest has the joy later this week of becoming a father for the first time.
England’s Paul Waring brilliantly birdied his closing two holes to capture just a second DPWT event in his 332nd start and with the 39-year-old now set to earn a full PGA Tour card for next year.
Waring leaped from 48th to No. 5 on the Race to Dubai standings and third among the top-10 who would earn a full 2025 PGA Tour card.
Though Waring was not quite sure how he is going to cope travelling from his now home in Dubai and back-and-forward to the US.
“I was quite happy living in Dubai to be honest with you”, he said smiling. “It’s going to be a long way to travel, a long commute over to America. But I’m looking forward to that. It’s a new challenge. I don’t know if that’s the case. Absolutely made up”.
