While Rory McIlroy was making his way to a sixth DP World Tour No. 1 title Scot David Drysdale was superbly forging his way to hopefully qualifying for next year’s 2025 Champions Tour.
Drysdale and with wife Vicky again proudly calling the shots posted a closing round of 71 to share seventh place on the Buckhorn Springs course at Valrico and just to the east of Tampa on Florida’s west coast.
The Scot was among 76 players teeing-up last Friday over the four rounds and with the leading 20 now advancing to the December 3rd to 6th Final Stage and being held at the famed TPC Scottsdale’s Champions Course in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Drysdale, who turns 50 next March, recorded early scores of 72, 69 and 72 for a seven-under par tally and with the qualifier won by Chilean Felipe Aguilar, who turned 50 earlier this month.
Aguilar is no stranger to pro golf becoming only the then second-born Chilean to compete on the DP World Tour when earning his card in 2006 while he won twice on the Tour in a pre-50 years tour career boasting 27 victories.
The Drysdale’s are not staying idle as they have travelled to this week’s Hong Kong Open and the third last on this year’s Asian Tour schedule though it looks likely to be Drysdale’s penultimate start in his second full season as the final event is taking place in Saudi Arabia and the same week that Drysdale will be teeing-up in Arizona.
Fellow Scot Stephen Gallacher could be joining Drysdale in the Grand Canyon State as the also recently-turned 50-year-old will tee-up tomorrow (Tues Nov, 19th) on the Socoda Springs course at San Jacinto in Calfornia in the third of three qualifying veneus.
The four-time DP World Tour winner is among 63 players teeing-up that include Frenchman Raphael Jacquelin along with American Bob May and the Australian duo of Matt Goggin and Brad Kennedy.
And let’s not forget affable Dane Soren Kjeldsen who carded the lowest round of the day, with a closing 68 at the Grand Bear course in Saucier, Mississippi to earn top honours by one stroke at 11-under in the second of the three qualifiers.
He’ll now join Drysdale in Arizona.
Kjeldsen recently ended his long DP World Tour career of four wins in emotional scenes at the recent Genesis International in South Korea ahead of turning 50 next May.
And in heading to TPC Scottsdale just the top-5 quaifiers will earn a 2025 Champions Tour card.
