Past Masters champion Patrick Reed has become the second Asian Tour player to shoot 59.
The Texsas golfer added new meaning to golf’s traditional ‘Moving Day’ sensationally grabbing 11 birdies on day three of the Link Hong Kong Open.
Fellow American John Catlin earlier this year became the first Asian Tour player in the Tour’s 30-year history since being founded in 1994 to shoot the magical score of 59.
Catlin shot an 11-under 59 after holing a 20-foot eagle putt on the final hole on day three at the Asian Tour’s International Series Macau event in China.
Catlin said all his passwords end with 59, though he never imagined actually posting what long has been considered golf’s magic number.
Amazingly Reed played alongside Catlin and marked his scorecard that Saturday in Macau.
Reed’s sensational effort, and under a preffered lie rule, took him to 15-under par and three clear of the field with a round to play in the $US 2m event.

“Yeah, you know, it was kind of one those days,” said Reed.
“I got up, I felt a little tight but felt ready to go and got out here and had probably one of the worst warm-ups ever.
“I looked at my caddy, and he goes, hey, a warm-up is a warm-up, let’s go out and just play golf. He goes, some of your best rounds have come from a poor warm-up.”
Added the 2018 Masters champion: “And you know, I stepped up on that first tee and did a great drive, and then from that point on, just quality iron shots, leaving myself a lot of really good looks, and was able to make a lot of putts.”
Reed’s historic round included five opening hole birdies, birdies at seven and 14 and ending his round with four straight birdies … out in 28 and home in 31.
Reed will tee-up Sunday looking to capture pro win number 10 and a first victory anywhere since winning the 2021 Farmers Insurance Open on the PGA Tour.
Of course, Reed earlier this year lost out to Rory McIlroy at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic.
