“Today was like playing a video game,” said Ayora speaking with the European Tour.
“Everything was good, so I’m very happy with it. I’m very proud, especially doing it here in Spain.
“I have less work for the rest of the tournament now. Hopefully I can do the same tomorrow.
“The greens were a little bit soft, so you can hit more at the pins. There was a little wind earlier on which meant I had to be a bit more precise with my irons.
“I’ve grown a lot this year. I’ve never played 28 or 30 tournaments in a season. You learn a lot, playing on different types of courses with different grasses.”
It was only late last year the Marbella-born Ayora turned pro after a splendid amateur career included being a member of the Spanish team that was crowned 2023 European champions.
The effort helped earn him the Gold Medal of Merit from the Royal Spanish Golf Federation.
Ayora had stood out in the second leg of 2023, when he won the first stage of the DP World Tour Q-School at Donnington, and then in the second stage in his home country he was third.
He accepted an invitation to contest the 2023 Open deEspania as an amateur, and made the jump to pro ranks just before competing in the final stage of Tour Q-School but fell shy of earning his 2024 Tour card.
Despite the disappointment he obtained a start in the co-sanctioned 2023 Australian Open where he proudly acquited himself with a T21st finish and follow that at the Mauritius Open with a T33rd result.
Ayora is currently ranked 292nd in the world but here’s a new talent that has top-50 by end of 2025 written all over him.
