The Scot posted six birdies in a five-under 67 for a 20-under-par and just minutes before play was halted on the Glendower host course.
Syme headed straight to the airport after doing everything the past three weeks on the African continent but win. He was seventh a fortnight ago at the Kenya Open, fourth last week after leading going into the last day of the SDC Championship and sixth
The Fifer’s efforts match a three-event run of a third and two eighth place finishes in August, 2020 and also last year of fourth, third and seventh three weeks in a round from late August to first week of September.
He said: “It was a nice finish to my final round down here, though a little frustrated over the last three holes that I didn’t give myself a better chance.
“Though to end the week with a five-under score and to only have dropped three shots over the four days was really, really solid, and that’s been very pleasing.
“All three weeks down here down here in Africa were great and, to be fair, three great opportunities for a win.
“That’s all you have to keep doing in this game is continue to give yourself loads of chances, and hopefully if you keep knocking on that victory door it will open”
Syme’s had two weeks off in his seven events of the New Year, made the cut in all seven and continues the be the leading Scot on this year’s Race to Dubai money list at No.
He said: “I’m off now for six weeks so back to Scotland, and six weeks back home working on a few things and get ready for my next run on the Tour”.
His next event will be the April 18th commencing Korea Championship.
Joining him on the flight was good friend Ewen Ferguson who finished just inside the top-25 at 15-under.
Italian Matteo Manassero brilliantly ended a 3,942 days DP World Tour winless drought and climbing back to game’s highest level birdieing his closing four holes and win by three shots thanks to a closing 66 for an impressive 26-under tally.
