Playing golf a few days a week for 52 weeks a year, and you thought you’ve played a lot of golf in a year.
Well, can you beat 450 golf courses from the third day of January this year to now mid-October, and with still two-and-a-half months till the end of the year as that’s what US-based golf photographer Patrick Koenig has done.
Koenig set a new world record for the most golf courses played in a year at 450 courses in walking off the 18th green at the Omni Interlocken in Broomfield, Colorado on Tuesday, October 17th.
It was the 450th new golf course he had played so far this year, a new Guinness World Record for the most golf courses in a calendar year.

The previous Guinness World Record for the most golf courses played in a year was 449 and that was set back in 2009 by husband and wife, Jonathan and Cathie Weaver.
If you can’t believe this then go onto Koenig’s log of all the courses he’s already played in 2023 by clicking on: https://www.pjkoenig.com/rgv-tour-20
As Koenig said: “In 2018 I embarked on a golf journey that changed my life. I purchased an RV and turned it into a RGV (recreational golf vehicle) and toured the country. I played golf with 793 people on 405 golf courses across 48 states and raised over $20k for The First Tee. I played a lot of golf and saw a lot of places, but the journey taught me about America and it taught me a lot about myself. That year will always hold a special place in my golf heart”.
And before setting out on his record-breaking playing golf ways in January this year, he had a message for the Weavers.
“The plan is so bold that In 2023 I will do what no one has done in the history of time. I will play 500 golf courses in a single year,” said Koenig.
“Jonathan and Cathie Weaver currently hold the record at 449 different 18 hole golf courses played in 365 days. But after 13 years, it is time for them to be dethroned”.
Brobible reports the record for ‘most golf’ records go, this isn’t to be confused with the Most Golf Played In A Year as Wisconsin man set that Most Golf Holes Played In A Year world record last November when he successfully completed 17,820 holes of golf, averaging 49 holes a day for an entire year. That man, Nolan Krentz, averages playing 15,000 holes of golf a year.
Though while admiring Koenig for his efforts there is one golfing achievement I have over my fellow golf media colleague.
At the time of writing this I (Bernie) have played golf in 47 different countries with the 47th being earlier this year in reporting on the Oman Open.
I just need three more and I will be in golfing heaven.
