It was www.golfbytourmiss.com asking the hard questions of Rory McIlroy following his victory this afternoon at the 41st hosting of the Genesis Scottish Open.
McIlroy holing a very testing birdie putt at the last to capture a 37th career victory, and also a sixth national open title, with win over a wind-whipped Renaissance course to the east of Edinburgh.
The four-time major winner denied top-ranked Scot the honour of winning for a first time on his home soil, who has posted a gutsy six-under 64 and was on the practice range hoping for a play-off but with McIlroy finishing birdie, birdie for a second DP World Tour win this year.
However it was at the end of his victory press conference, and with McIlroy clearly in a good mood, when he was asked about his relationship with Garcia, who had revealed at the recent LIV Golf event at Valderrama that the pair had spoken and were page on a same page in their relationship.
“I’d say, yeah, we’ve talked, which is a first step,” said the new Scottish Open champion.
“Yeah, there’s, you know, there’s things that we both think we probably could have done differently, and there’s a lot that’s went into it. ‘
“You know, it’s good that we’re at least talking again. It’s a first step. I wouldn’t say we are all the way there but we are — it’s a good first step”.
