Host Masters champion Scottie Scheffler reckons, and apart from loosing of belts, there will be no tension as his now fellow Augusta winners munch away on sliders, steak and cookies at next month’s champions dinner.
As is customary, the reigning Masters winner gets to choose the menu and boy has Scheffler gone for a quintessential American array of favourites including cheeseburger sliders, Texas ribeye steak, blackened redfish, tortilla soup, firecracker shrimp, and a warm chocolate chip skillet cookie with ice cream.
Oh, I’m counting the calories.

Seriously, the now World No. 1 Scheffler said he expects those LIV golfers sitting down at the dinner table within the Augusta National clubhouse to be civil to each other, as and Patrick Reed recently said that if he is asked by the likes of say Jordan Spieth, Tiger Woods or Adam Scott to ‘Please, pass the salt’ he will.
Scheffler, coming off a victory at The Players Championship on Sunday, revealed his menu for this year’s gathering after winning last year’s green jacket at Augusta National.
The 26-year-old American also said that he hasn’t decided what he will say in his speech to the past winners, but he will count upon them to be on their best manners despite a split that has divided golf’s elite talent.
“I haven’t totally decided what I’ll say,” Scheffler said. “I’m not quite sure what the vibe will be like but I think we’re all there to celebrate the Masters.
“I think the dinner will be really special for all us to be able to gather again and I am sure we will put all that other stuff aside and have a good time together. Just because guys joined another tour doesn’t mean I’m not friends with them any more and think differently of them as people.
“They are still my friends and we are all just gonna hang out and have a good time.”
Triple Masters champion and six-time major winner Phil Mickelson was asked ahead of this week’s LIV Golf’s event in Tuscon what he felt returning to Augusta National early next month for a first time in two years.
“No expectations. We are grateful to just be able to play and compete and be a part of it,” Mickelson said. “A lot of the people there that are playing and competing in the Masters are friend for decades and I’m looking forward to seeing them again.”
