… Muscat, Oman
Four-time major winner Brooks Koepka has missed the high six-over par cut by two shots with scores of 74 & 78 in the inaugural Asian Tour’s Oman event on day two of the $US 2m event in Muscat.
The extremely windy conditions, and up to very late in the afternoon, saw no player break 70 on day two while just eight of 126 players managed to better par of 72 on the exposed Al Mouj course laid out along the Gulf of Oman.

Japan’s Takumi Kanaya, and a former world amateur No.1, leads the field by a shot, signing for a 71 to move to just four-under and with compatriot Ryo Hisatsune (70) in second place at three-under.
Big threat over the weekend is Chilean Joaquin Niemann and with the World No. 23 and highest ranked in the field sharing third place at two-under.
Niemann, and also competing on the Asian Tour these past two weeks for a first time in his career, has put himself in a strong position heading into the weekend and clearly now a strong favourite to win for a first time in a year after capturing the Tiger Woods hosted 2022 Genesis Invitational that is being played next week but without Niemann teeing-up.
“I needed a good round today after not playing my best golf today”, he said. “When I arrived here mid-morning for the start of my round the wind was blowing very strongly, so we knew we would be in for a tough day. So, it meant needing to be fully focussed on my round and I am really pleased how I handled the condtions.

“So, it was a really good round. I played really well. I probably could have actually scored even better but there were a couple of short putts I missed.
“Very happy though, conditions were tough so can’t complain with two-under. The wind was blowing, the greens were firm so I’m happy.”
Helping Niemann he said was being grouped on day two with Spaniard and close friend Sergio Garcia, and each in the same management stable.
“You want to see him [Sergio] playing well, as well as yourself so it is always fun playing with Sergio,” said Niemann.
“We have played a lot of practice rounds together but it is nice to have tournament rounds as it is different to practice rounds. He didn’t play his best golf today but Sergio is Sergio, so I need to keep an eye on him over the weekend!”
Garcia made triple on the fourth hole and worked hard to stay in the hunt but shot a 76 and is three off the lead along with Thailand’s Itthipat Buranatanyarat (71), Australian Todd Sinnott (73), American Andy Ogletree (75), and Sadom Kaewkanjana (76) from Thailand.
