… in Abu Dhabi
Ewen Ferguson’s arrived excited to Abu Dhabi for this week’s inaugural Hero Cup and also buoyed by thoughts of eventually earning a PGA Tour card after having spent a few weeks post the 2022 DP World Tour season in the States.
The double DP Tour first travelled with his tools of trade to Florida for a new season Puma Golf promotional session.
Ferguson then found his way to Nashville, Tennessee spending five days at the capital of country music before heading to the Lone Star State and spending a week playing golf in Dallas and San Antonio.
Among those Texas golf clubs he visited was a round on the TPC San Antonio course, and venue each year for the Valero Texas Open and where fellow Scot Martin Laird won in 2013 by holding off Rory McIlroy.
“It was a great couple of weeks and good fun in the States spending time at Nashville, as everyone who knows me, knows how much I liked country music,” Ferguson said speaking shorting after arriving in Abu Dhabi for this week’s Hero Cup.
“We then headed down to Texas playing some superb golf courses including the Texas Open host course and just enjoyed it so much. The 18th hole is a mirror in also playing the 18th on the Earth Course at Jumeirah in Dubai with the water feature winding it’s way up the fairway.
“So, it was a fun couple of weeks.”
Ferguson stated earlier in the week that competing on the PGA Tour is one of his career goals and with that in mind, he’s already looking ahead to the end of this season as the top-10 money-earners on the DP World Tour will earn PGA Tour status for the 2024 season.
Ferguson returned home but from mid-December has been settling into Dubai where he’s now based.
He arrived in Abu Dhabi near noon Tuesday to take his place in Tommy Fleetwood’s GB & I team to tackle a Francesco Molinari led European side in Friday’s stating Hero Cup.
It will be Ferguson’s first taste of team competition since ending his amateur career as a member of the winning 2015 GB & I Walker Cup side that handed out a seven-point drubbing to a USA team featuring Bryson DeChambeau.
“It’s been a long time since I played team competition so I’m really excited to be playing this week in the Hero Cup”, he said.
“I’ve been practicing a lot up in Dubai since before Christmas although my clubs didn’t arrive from Scotland but fortunately Cobra sent me over a replacement set, and then the missing clubs turned-up so I had two sets.
“I’ve probably been in Dubai about a month and just settling-in though I’ve also had about 10 games including a round at the Emirates and that’s looking really good.
“The great thing also there’s a lot of players now based in Dubai so there is always someone who can organise a game with.
“Though this is a first time I’ve competed in Abu Dhabi, so looking forward very much to this week”.
Ferguson headed to his hotel room to find Hero Cup hats and clothing laid out for him along with gifts and other items plus all the information he’ll require ahead of tee-off on Friday.
And then after freshening-up it was straight to close-by range for the present World No.
