McIlroy’s Verbal Grenade, Rahm’s Labels OWGR Laughable & Much More Well Before Tee-Off In DPWTC

The season-ending DP World Tour event has yet to tee-up but it’s been three days of outside the ropes headlines.

The present war of words sadly continues in the men’s professional game and with  Rory McIlroy on Tuesday hurling verbal grenade at the LIV Golf CEO, Greg Norman

McIlroy presented the only story of day two of official practice declaring Norman ‘needs to step down and exit stage left’ and along with their needs to be ‘an adult in the room’ when the waring parties do finally meet, is the story of the tournament before attention shifts to inside the ropes.

The smoke was still settling early Wednesday morning when Jon Rahm visited the media centre.  Rahm’s very much like McIlroy.  He’s honest with you, so much so, he pulled the pin on a World Rankings grenade. You see there will be less World Rankings points on offer in Dubai this week than the little-known RSM Classic that is being played this week somewhere in the US and with Rahm describing the scenario as ‘laughable.  Actually the champion Spaniard described the actions of the world rankings administration body as laughable, laughable and added a third and fourth laughable.

We’ve also had good news stories with back-to-back US Open winners Rahm and Matt Fitzpatrick being presented by European Tour CEO Keith Pelley with Life Membership of the European Tour.

We’ve also had three players withdraw because one is getting married, another has become a father and the third is injured.#

Double Major-winning Collin Morikawa, and ranked 35th on the Race to Dubai. has chosen not to defend his DP World Tour crown and instead is getting married to Katherine Zu, who he proposed to last December.

Belgium’s Thomas Pieters, lying seventh on the R2D, is at home with his wife celebrating the birth of the couple’s first child though there’s no celebrations for Will Zalatoris who continues to be side-lined with an injured back.

Oh by the way, the opening tee-time here at the Jumeriah Estates is 8.35am (Local time).
