Scott Jamieson’s rich vein of good early new season form continues in posting a seven-under-par 65 to share the lead heading to day two of the inaugural Ras Al Khaimah Championship.
Jamieson, who led for three rounds at last fortnight’s Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship, joined German Sebastian Heisele who was out in the first group on the stunning Al Hamra course.
Jamieson, 38, started his round from the longest point of the course at the par-3 ‘over water’ 10th before a first birdie at the 11th ahead of birdies at 17 and then chipping-in off the green, and with the Arabian Sea behind him, at the par-5 18th.
The Scot then capped his round with three birdies in succession from his 12th and then the seventh birdie on his 17th hole.
Despite his great showing, Jamieson walked off feeling a little short-changed

He said: “My iron play was good today event though I didn’t actually drive it particularly well
“I just picked up where I left off at the end of November, I did a bit of work but nothing dramatic. No great overhauls which I’ve maybe been guilty of in the past, instead of just improving on what I have a little bit here and there.
“I think being ready mentally was key, being ready to hit the ground running and thankfully I was able to do that”.
Heisele revealed he had been struggling at times last season with concentration and nervousness and he shut his season down in September and had his thyroid removed.
He is now feeling much better but admitted even he did not expect this turn around in fortunes, having not made a cut since the Scottish Open in July.
“So I had my thyroid removed in early October and I feel like a new man more or less. I turned things around for the better for me so I’m happy I got it done.
“I couldn’t imagine sat on the plane that it would be like this, I was a bit nervous and didn’t know what to expect. I had a few decent days of practice leading up to today obviously and made the most of it.
“This is one of the better rounds I’ve had in a while so on we go to tomorrow.”
Aberdeen’s David Law capped his day with an eagle ‘3’ on 18 in a score of 66 to be just one back of the lead.
Three other Scots – Robert MacIntyre, Grant Forrest, and Tour rookie Craig Howie – are just inside the top-20 on three-under.
And Colin Montgomerie has his work cut-out on day two to make a first cut in three UAE events after signing for a two-over 74.
