Mickelson Speaks In Glowing Terms Of Bland & His British Masters Triumph

Newly-crowned PGA Championship winner Phil Mickelson has lavished praised on England’s Richard Bland following his own historic triumph a week earlier at The Belfry.

Bland, 47, ending a 478 winless drought with his emotional success on the famed Ryder Cup host venue.

The affable Bland returns to competition at this week’s Made in Himmerland (and formerly the Made In Denmark) still very much on a high following his play-off triumph 10 days earlier.

And in speaking of his first win on the European Tour, Bland spoke of what would be his delight in shaking Mickelson’s hand at next month’s US Open.

Though for that to happen Bland needs to be among the top-10 on a mini money list being run over three events – the British Masters, the Made in Himmerland and also including next week’s Porsche European Open.

“Seeing Phil win last week just shows everybody who plays now is capable of winning no matter what age”, said Bland.

“I think last week at the PGA Championship they’re all capable of winning and Phil showed that. You don’t become not good enough overnight with the quality Phil has, and it shows age doesn’t matter and in some respect I’ve done that too this year, Westwood has done it, Stewart Cink has done it.

“I guess it’s all happened in such a short space of time, maybe in some sense it was a case of ‘why can’t I do it if they’ve done it’, it does give you that extra sense of belief for sure. But to see Phil win a Major four or five years past when anyone else has done is incredible. Hopefully I can see him at Torrey Pines and shake his hand”.

Well, www.golfbytourmiss.com asked Mickelson’s reaction to Bland’s win at a PGA Tour Zoom conference ahead of this week’s Charles Schwab Challenge in Texas.
