Scotland’s Scott Jamieson brilliantly muscled his way into contention with a new course record 10-under par 61 on day two of the Tenerife Open.
Jamieson grabbed 10 birdies, including chipping-in at the last, to better the mark of 62 set a day earlier by Dane Thorbjorn Olesen on the hilly but spectacular Costa Adeje resort course.
The effort handed Jamieson had just 23 putts in posting 12-under tally to be trailing in third place and just four shots behind Germany’s Nicolai Von Dellingshausen who finished birdie, eagle in a 62 to lead by three on 16-under par total.
Jamieson’s 61 is just a shot shy of his career best of an 11-under par 60 on day two of the 2013 Portugal Masters.

The Florida-based Scot did shoot a 57 to capture the rain-shortened 36-hole 2012 Nelson Mandela Championship and the first event of the 2012/13 European Tour season however the steady rain forced officials to reduce the course to a par-65 and with preferred lies in place.
Jamieson burst out of the Tenerife gates with four birdies in succession before birdies at seven, nine, 11 and 13 before repeating what he did a day earlier and that was to birdie 17 and 18.
He said: “The course record is a nice accolade and hopefully there is a trophy for it at the end of the week.
“I’ve had a few before and never put my card on the wall at home but maybe I should.
“Overall it added up to a great round of golf.
“I did the simple things well and holed a couple of nice putts at the right time. The five par-5s are the key this week as they are gettable and if you take care of business there you are playing well.
“Though in saying that, there are a couple of tough holes outside them, including eight and nine, depending where the flag is on nine it can be really tricky. The par-3 14th is another tough one. But if you get good tee shots away on the par five’s you’re disappointed not to birdie.
“The biggest positive going into the weekend was that I didn’t play particularly good off the tee yesterday but I was much better today and only hit one shot I wasn’t pleased with.
“Hopefully those feelings I had today will carry over into the weekend.”
Fellow Scot Grant Forrest is the next best of the Scots signing for a 66 for an eight-under total.
