Austin, TX …
Reigning U.S. Open champion Brooks Koepka has been officially ruled out of next month’s Masters.
Koepka has been struggling with a left wrist injury and the Erin Hills winning hero has not competed since the opening event of 2018 in finishing last by six shots in January’s Sentry Tournament of Champions in Hawaii.
The West Palm Beach golfer complained of his wrist concern in Hawaii that he picked-up at the end of 2017, and just weeks after finishing T2nd in the WGC – HSBC Champion in China.
Koepka then sought professional advice and was advised he had a partially torn Extensor Carpi Ulnaris (ECU) tendon.
And while the 27-year old is understood to have began putting and chipping he’s now ruled out returning to Augusta National as the current U.S. Open winner.
“Doctors said I would be about 80 percent, but I can’t play 80 percent,” Koepka said. “I either have to go full bore or not at all. I don’t want to risk getting it re-injured and then be out a long time.”
Koepka had made his Masters debut in 2015 finishing T-33rd and has got better with each appearance ending 22nd in 2016 and T11th a year ago.
Koepka has captured nine titles in his pro career and capped, of course, by success last June in rural Wisconsin.
