Bernie McGuire, Charlotte, NC …
Rory McIlroy is not the only golfer with a new caddy as Scotland’s top-ranked golfer Russell Knox heads into the PGA Championship also with a new caddy.
Knox will start the PGA Championship at Quail Hollow with Montana–born, Kevin Fasbender.
Fasbender spent 15 years working with South African Rory Sabatini.
In fact, Knox and McIlroy both had stand–in caddies last week with McIlroy, and as widely announced in the media, employing closest friend, Harry Diamond after he and long–time caddy, J P Fitzgerald parted ways.
Knox ended with Canadian Brad Whittle shortly after the Masters but his replacement lasted just a few events and like Fitzgerald, was let go by Knox after Royal Birkdale.
Knox arranged for his coach, Ramon Bescansa to carry the clubs last week in Akron but with Fasbender on the bag the now World No. 41 is looking for a longer arrangement.
“It is very important to me to have a good player and caddy relationship and the good thing is that I have known for a while and he has a lot of experience“, he said.
“So, I am hoping he can help me a little bit.“
