Quail Hollow ….
Triple Major winning Jordan Spieth struggled in taking 33 puttts to be left a littl red faced in a quest to become the youngest Grand Slam champ at the PGA Championship.
Spieth was struggling in the hot and humid conditions to be three over after 15 holes before ending with a one-over 72 on a rain softened at Quail Hollow.
The World No. 3 got off to a good start to be even through nine holes but struggled on his second nine while a check of his stats reveals Spieth had a round that included 33 putts.
“The goal was to grab the lead but then it’s so much easier when you are on the front page of the leaderboard than it is coming from behind,“ he said.
“Given it’s the first round, I know I’m still in it but I know that tomorrow’s round becomes that much more important to work my way and stay in it.
“I don’t think I was as free rolling as I thought I would be, as you can tell by some frustration.
“If I would have shot one over and didn’t strike it well and everything was average, it would have been fine. But when I had the chances that I had and I just couldn’t get the ball to go in on the greens, that is when I get the most frustrated.”
Thorbjorn Olesen was the early first-round leader at the PGA Championship after shooting a 4-under 67.
