Johnson Heading To Texas After Equal Best Score In 3O Rounds At Players Championship

Ponte Vedre, FL …

World No. 1 Dustin Johnson is heading to Dallas in good spirits after celebrating Mothers Day with his equal best score in 3o rounds of the Players Championship.

Johnson, and wearing pink like most other competitors in recognition of Mothers Day in the US, capped his round at the par five, second hole when he holed a brilliant 50-foot eagle putt on route to a four under par 68 to grab the early clubhouse lead with a two-under tally.

The only other occasion Johnson has broken 70 was in shooting a 68 on day one in 2014 and then a 68 in the final round a year ago.

And his 286 tally is just one shot more than his best-ever four day tally twelve months ago.

“It was definitely better today even though yesterday I felt hit the ball well but then I had a really bad finish on Saturday”, he said.

“So, today was lot more solid and I hit a lot more greens but then it could have been still a few shots lower as I hit a few indifferent wedges from the middle of the fairways over the back nine.

“There is still a bit of rust in my game given I had a long time off from Augusta and did not really have any practice leading into last week at the Wells Fargo where I ended up finishing tied third.

“But this is a little different to Wilmington and a lot tougher and you have to be a lot more spot on with your shots, so I just a little rusty but today I finally struck it a lot better and hit some good shots and happy with the way I played for sure”.

And Johnson’s is Thursday’s starting AT & T Byron Nelson near Dallas, Texas.
