McDowell Birdies Wyndham Closing Four Holes To Brilliantly Reignite Hazeltine Dream.

Greensboro, North Carolina … Graeme McDowell birdied the closing four holes in a round of a six-under par 64 to brilliantly reignite his dream of competing in next month’s Ryder Cup.

McDowell brought the crowd around the 18th green to their feet when his approach shot was long but then trickled down to just tap-in birdie distance in continuing hot and humid conditions on the Sedgefield Country Club course in Greensboro, North Carolina.

The effort, and coming a day after McDowell was also four under par for his closing four holes, saw McDowell move to 12-under par and well within sight of the lead in the $US 5.6m event

McDowell’s score was his lowest since a 63 late last year on route to victory in the Mayakoba Championship in Mexico while it was out in Shanghai in November 2013 he last shot a round of 64.

The Northern Irishman arrived in Greensboro for a first time in his career lying 10 places outside of automatically qualifying for a fifth straight Ryder Cup team and if he should now pull off a second success on the 2015/16 PGA Tour wraparound schedule, McDowell would come into serious contention to break into Darren Clarke’s side.

And that’s exactly what the soon father-to-be for a second time was thinking after signing his scorecard.

“It’s nice to get the juices flowing a little bit tomorrow,” he said.

“I came here for a couple of reasons this week. Obviously as a bit of a warm-up for next week going into the Playoffs with Atlanta being my big goal this season and partly to try put myself back on the Ryder Cup radar.

“So, I’ll need a big day tomorrow to maybe keep my fingers crossed but we’ll go out there and play loose and anything happens, it’s a positive.”

One of the first to greet McDowell after his round was Wyndham Championship Tournament Director, Mark Brazil who warmly congratulated McDowell on his efforts the past two days, and with McDowell clearly glad to be present in the event for a first occasion.

” You know, it is nice to come to golf courses where you feel like you can make scores,” he reinterated as he done a day earlier speaking with www.golfbytourmiss.com

“I feel like sometimes, you know, the last two, three years playing on both sides of the Atlantic on both Tours you kind of end up especially cherry-picking the toughest events and toughest golf courses.

“Sometimes 64s are not really in your psyche. Kind of level pars and a couple under is a great scores at your Bay Hills and your Honda Classics and stuff like that.

“So nice to come here to the Wyndham, first time here for me, playing a golf course where I feel comfortable and I feel like it kind of offers up some birdie chances if you play well and does good for your confidence.”
