“I was so happy Alan for him and genuinely happy for him,” said Lowry.

“Alan grown-up with me as an older brother and that could be tough but he says it hasn’t been.  But he just loves being my brother and loves just going away to play tournaments.

“He also is always trying to learn from me and that is a great compliment for any brother.

“Winning the Mullingar is a great because it is a prestigious tournament and many of the greats of Irish golf have their name on the trophy, and everyone apart from G Mac has won it including myself back in 2008.”

Lowry indicated Alan is going back to university next year chasing his Masters degree.

However if Alan Lowry does continue his winning Mulligar form it was suggested to Shane would he tap McIlroy, as host of the Dubai Duty Free Irish Open, would he tap the World No. 1 on the shoulder for an invitation into the European Tour event for his brother.

“I don’t know about that but then you never know because if he keeps playing well and winning I might have to have a word with Rory,” he said smiling widely.
