Martin Laird Almost Assured Of PGA Championship Tee Time.

Despite some uncertainty over World No. 1 Rory McIlroy Scotland’s Martin Laird looks assured of contesting this week’s PGA Championship.

Laird has been on Whistling Straits stand-by for more than a week as first reserve into the season-ending Major on the shores of Lake Michigan in Wisconsin.

Organisers are holding two spots – one for the winner of both today’s (SUN) concluding WGC – Bridgestone Invitational and the PGA Tour’s Barracuda Open in Nevada.

Laird has been biding his time no doubt wondering, like the rest of the golf world, whether McIlroy will take his place despite PGA officials releasing the opening two round draw that includes McIlroy, as defending champ, playing alongside double Major winning Jordan Spieth and new Open Champ Zach Johnson.

The good aspect for Laird is that the top-30 on the Bridgestone leader board late into third round on the Firestone Country Club course are exempt meaning Laird will be handed the PGA Championship tee time.

If so, it will be Laird’s fifth straight after also making his championship debut in 2010 at Whistling Straits.

Laird will join five other Scots – Marc Warren, Stephen Gallacher, Russell Knox, Richie Ramsay and Colin Colin Montgomerie – and in one of the biggest tartan representations in the year’s final Major for some time
