One of sport’s biggest ‘Will he or won’t he’ scenarios has been settled with World No. Rory McIlroy officially confirming  he will take his place this week as defending PGA Champion

McIlroy got his first look at the Whistling Straits host venue today and revealing to the Golf Channel’s Todd Lewis also he has played a remarked 90 holes of golf since his freak footy injury on a suburban Belfast ground.

That’s five lots of 18 holes from a player the sports world thought could hardly walk after he ruptured a tendon in his left leg, and when include today’s 18 that’s 108 holes and more than most amateurs might play in a month.

It finally ends days of Instagram post and emoji-filled tweets that McIlroy put out on whether or note he would contest the season-ending Major.

And those already at Whilsting Straits report McIlroy does look ready to make his first competitive start since sufferng an ankle injury on July 4.

The injury forced the world No. 1 to miss title defenses at both the Open Championship and this week’s WGC-Bridgestone Invitational, and with McIlroy now to take his place in search of a third PGA title since 2012.

McIlroy is included among one of the PGA of America’s featured groups and will begin the first round at 2:20 p.m. Thursday alongside Jordan Spieth and Zach Johnson, the two men currently in possession of the other three major trophies.

McIlroy arrived at Whistling Straits Saturday morning, and after hitting balls on the range he began his first practice round in Kohler, Wisc., around 10 a.m. local time.

Joining him was long-time coach Michael Bannon and fitness trainer Steve McGregor while he played a practice round with long-time good freind, Harry Diamond who was using one of McIlroy’s spare Nike carry bags sporting a distinct Manchester United logo.
