Mickelson Says Task Force With Get USA Team ‘On Right Track’.

Phil Mickelson believes the USA Ryder Cup task force will get the American team back on the right track.

The task force was established in the wake of Mickelson’s controversial post Gleneagles comments where the Tom Watson led side were crushed 16 1/2 to 11 1/2 points by a better disciplined and performed Paul McGinley led European Team.

“I’m more about looking forward and trying to move forward from it and to really make the next … 10 Ryder Cups, make those the best we can,” said Mickelson after posting a one under par 71 on day one of the Humana Challenge.

“We have some really smart guys with a lot of great input in the first (Ryder Cup task force) meeting and we have another one soon, too, that I think will get us on the right track with a good game plan, with a good continuity from year to year.

“Who knows if it will bring the results we want or not, but there’s a lot of good, smart people in there and we’re moving forward trying to make this work.”

After the USA’s Scotland loss, Mickelson was outspoken in saying the U.S. team had gotten away from a “winning formula” that captain Paul Azinger instituted in 2008.

Mickelson’s comments led to the PGA of America forming a Ryder Cup task force and despite much criticism in that it ‘is not rocket science why Europe was successful at Gleneagles’.

“I just think there’s a lot of great input that I’m excited about, what we’re doing moving forward,” added Mickelson.

“How we got there doesn’t matter. We’re there now and we’re going to make it a really great experience for the next generation of players as they go through the next decade or two.”
