On the eve of his 600th Tour event at the Turkish Airlines Open and Colin Montgomerie declared his disbelief the PGA of America has set-up a task force in order to help turnaround having lost eight of the past 10 Ryder Cups.
The PGA of America has reacted to the USA Team’s recent five point loss in announcing the setting up of a 15-man task force that will include the likes of Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson.
Of course, there has been much debate already on the need of a task force when the seemingly clear answer to the USA losing the past three Ryder Cup’s is the lack to team bonding and the inbred ‘individuality’ of the PGA Tour.
And Monty, as a member of the five-man panel that will soon select a 2016 European Ryder Cup captain, concurs.
“I never thought I would see the day the Americans would set a task force,” he said here in Turkey.
“There was four matches out there at Gleneagles on Sunday that went the European way, and might not have done and it would have changed the whole scene.
“So to set up this task force, I just don’t see the necessity.
“I just see someone getting the team to play as a team. That’s what I would forsee for the Americans and that is to play as a team for each other.”
